STAREE trial of 9,971 participants showed atorvastatin cut cardiovascular events from 8.3% to 6.0% over 5.9 years with only 2.7% minor adverse effects in both groups. Results apply to healthy older Australians living in community settings; age alone should not be reason to deny statin therapy, requiring individual physician-patient decision-making instead.
