In the long human effort to read and rewrite the instructions of life, a new method called prime assembly has emerged from the laboratory — published in Nature — offering scientists the ability to insert longer stretches of DNA into the genome with a precision that previous tools could not achieve. Where earlier techniques faltered when the task grew large, this approach holds its aim. The advance does not yet reach the clinic, but it extends the frontier of what genetic medicine might one day become.
