Nintendo Indie World Showcase revela 12+ jogos para Switch, incluindo Outer Wilds

A game from 2001 that was never finished suddenly being completed and released.
WayForward brought back the original team to complete Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution, an unfinished Game Boy Advance title from over two decades ago.

Nintendo held an Indie World Showcase in mid-November 2023, and the presentation delivered more than a dozen games heading to the Switch across the remainder of 2023 and throughout 2024. The lineup mixed newly announced titles with long-awaited ports, creating a showcase that spanned multiple genres and appealed to different kinds of players.

The most striking announcement was the arrival of Outer Wilds on Switch. Developer Mobius has been teasing this port for some time, and it's finally coming. The Archaeologist Edition launches December 7, 2023, bundling the base game with the Echoes of the Eye expansion. A physical release is planned for 2024. For players who have been waiting to experience this space exploration puzzle game on Nintendo's handheld, the wait is nearly over.

Another major reveal involved Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution, a game that never saw the light of day until now. WayForward, the studio behind the Shantae series, dug into its archives and found an unfinished Game Boy Advance title from 2001 called Shantae 2: Risky Revolution. The developer brought back much of the original team to complete what is now Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution. The restored version includes a remastered look and a new four-player local battle mode, arriving in 2024.

The showcase featured a range of other experiences. Core Keeper, a subterranean roguelike that has been in early access on Steam since last year, is coming to Switch in 2024 with full online multiplayer for up to eight players. Moonstone Island, a creature-collection life simulation set across floating celestial islands, launches on Switch in spring 2024 as an exclusive, bringing with it over 60 different spirits to collect through card-based combat, farming, and exploration. Backpack Hero, a roguelike centered on inventory management and item organization as a combat mechanic, released in early access on Steam in 2022 and is arriving on Switch the same day as the showcase.

Narrative-driven games also featured prominently. A Highland Song, from the studio behind 80 Days, is a story adventure exploring the Scottish Highlands where player choices shape the outcome, blending open platforming with rhythmic sections and traditional Scottish folk music. It launches December 5, 2023. On Your Tail is a newly revealed detective game set in the coastal town of Borgo Marina, where anthropomorphic animals vacation and the player must uncover the mystery of a masked figure while exploring the city, fishing, and solving minigames. The Star Named EOS uses photography as a mechanic to explore a world and uncover the truth about the protagonist's mother's disappearance, arriving spring 2024. Death Trick: Double Blind is an investigative visual novel set in a circus where two unlikely partners must discover what happened to a famous magician, using point-and-click exploration and detective work to find contradictions in suspects' stories.

Action and puzzle games rounded out the presentation. Howl is a turn-based game set in a medieval world plagued by a strange sonic curse called the howl, where a deaf prophet attempts to save locals. Blade Chimera is a newly announced 2D action game where the Lumina Sword not only repels demonic attacks but can manipulate time itself to restore broken platforms and navigate the city you must protect, launching spring 2024.

The showcase concluded with a rapid-fire montage of additional titles: Enjoy the Diner available immediately, Heavenly Bodies in February 2024, The Gecko Gods in spring 2024, Passpartout 2: The Lost Artist releasing the same day as the showcase, Urban Myth Dissolution Center coming in 2024, and Braid: Anniversary Edition on April 30, 2024. The breadth of the announcement suggests Nintendo's commitment to indie support will remain steady through 2024, with releases staggered across the year to maintain player interest.

The Hearth Conversation Another angle on the story
Inventor

What strikes you most about this showcase—is it the sheer number of games, or something else?

Model

It's the mix. You've got a game from 2001 that was never finished suddenly being completed and released. You've got a major indie title like Outer Wilds finally arriving on Switch after years of waiting. And you've got brand-new announcements alongside ports. That's not just a lineup; that's a statement about what Nintendo thinks indie games should be.

Inventor

The Shantae game is fascinating—bringing back the original team to finish something abandoned 22 years ago. Why does that matter?

Model

It matters because it shows a studio respecting its own history and its players' appetite for lost work. WayForward didn't have to do that. They could have made a new Shantae game from scratch. Instead, they chose to honor what came before, to complete something unfinished. That's a different kind of creative act.

Inventor

Outer Wilds is the prestige title here, clearly. But looking at the full list, who is this showcase actually for?

Model

It's for people who want variety. If you like creature collection, there's Moonstone Island. If you want detective work, there's Death Trick or On Your Tail. If you want pure inventory puzzles, there's Backpack Hero. If you want narrative and exploration, there's A Highland Song or The Star Named EOS. It's not a showcase built around one type of player.

Inventor

Several of these games are launching immediately or within days. Does that suggest Nintendo planned this timing carefully?

Model

Almost certainly. You announce something and release it the same day or within a week—that's not accident. It keeps momentum going, gives people something to buy right now, and then the spring 2024 releases keep them engaged through the first half of the year. It's pacing.

Inventor

What about the games that are still in early access on Steam? Why bring them to Switch now?

Model

Because the Switch audience is different. Steam players have had time with these games, found bugs, shaped them through feedback. Now they're ready for a broader audience, and the Switch is where a lot of people want to play. It's not a new game; it's a game finding its full audience.
