Govee Launches Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 Pro with Dual-Layer Illumination

Govee, the company that created the permanent outdoor lighting category, announced a new system on September 8 that pushes the boundaries of what homeowners can do with their exterior spaces. The Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 Pro introduces what the company calls the first permanent outdoor lighting solution with independently controlled dual-layer illumination—meaning each light unit can display two different colors or effects at the same time, rather than a single unified color across the entire string.

The innovation centers on what Govee calls its ColorZone Solution, a proprietary technology that lets users control color zones within individual light units independently. This opens up possibilities that traditional single-layer permanent outdoor lights cannot match: homeowners can now create seamless color gradients, wash entire walls with light, and highlight architectural features like eaves, facades, and decks with layered effects. The system includes a color management tool called LuminBlend+ that handles transitions from soft pastels to saturated, vibrant shades.

The company has also built AI into the product. The AI Lighting Bot 2.0 lets users describe the lighting style they want—say, a warm glow with cool accents—and the system generates customized dual-layer effects tailored to that description. The product comes with eight pre-designed "Iconic Wonders" themed lighting effects inspired by natural landscapes, giving homeowners ready-made options if they prefer not to design from scratch.

Flexibility in installation was a design priority. The system uses independent control Y connectors that allow light strings to split and operate completely different effects on each branch. This matters for homes with complex exterior layouts or varied architectural features. The strings themselves carry an IP68 waterproof rating, meaning they can handle rain, snow, and extreme weather. The system is built to perform year-round and integrates with smart home platforms including Matter, Alexa, and Google Home.

Govee positions itself as the number one brand for household permanent outdoor lights in the United States, according to sales data from Euromonitor International covering 2025. Eric Wu, the company's CEO, framed the new product as the next step in a progression that began with cuttable designs and moved into multi-zone optics. "Building on years of expertise and R&D innovation, the Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 Pro takes DIY creativity even further," Wu said in a statement.

The product is available starting immediately through Govee.com and Amazon. The 100-foot version costs $499.99, while the 200-foot version is priced at $799.99. The announcement targets homeowners who want advanced customization in their outdoor lighting without hiring a professional installer, positioning the product as a canvas for personal expression rather than a standard utility.
