Each year, vast quantities of unused prescription medications are discarded not because they are unsafe, but because no reliable method existed to prove they were safe. Researchers have now built SPaRAS, a smart sensor system embedded in medicine packaging that silently records storage conditions throughout a drug's journey — from pharmacy shelf to patient home and back again — using the same wireless technology that enables a tap-to-pay transaction. In doing so, they have addressed the two barriers that have long frustrated medicine reuse programs: the question of safety verification and the
