In Philadelphia, interaction designer Tianci Gong has quietly turned his spare hours into something the design profession rarely celebrates but always needs: infrastructure. Since early 2025, his two open-source Figma plugins have found their way into the daily workflows of more than 2,300 designers at major technology companies — not through promotion, but through usefulness. In an industry that prizes finished surfaces, Gong has chosen to build the scaffolding beneath them, offering his tools freely and asking nothing in return.
