For as long as stories have been told, the frame around them has shaped what could be felt inside them. A research team at KAIST in South Korea has now dissolved one of the oldest frames in visual storytelling — the flat page — by building ComiXR, a platform that places comic characters and narratives directly into the physical rooms where readers live. Presented at ACM DIS 2026, the work asks not merely what technology can do to comics, but what space itself has always been waiting to offer them.
